Biography
Shayna is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) with nearly 20 years of teaching experience in higher education.
She holds a BA from McGill University, an MA in TESOL from the University of Nottingham, and a Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Shayna is pursuing a PhD in Education and Social Justice, focusing on the intersections of pedagogy, equity, and inclusion.
Shayna currently serves as Director of External Pathways for the Centre for English Language Education (CELE), where she leads innovative partnerships and advances accessible learning opportunities. She is also the convenor of the PACT NAA, leading a peer mentoring initiative that supports student development and belonging.
Her contributions have been recognised through several awards, including the Lord Dearing Award in 2025 for outstanding teaching and learning, and the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal in 2022, both awarded as part of a team for significant impact within the University community.
Her professional interests include fostering learner autonomy, course design, and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in educational settings. She is committed to creating environments where all learners can thrive and enjoy meaningful learning experiences.
