'Marketing Management' Module Awarded National First-Class Module Status

NUBS China’s ‘Marketing Management’ module has won one of UNNC’s first-ever National First-Class Module Award. This prestigious recognition is awarded by the Ministry of Education. The module is led by Professor Martin Liu, Associate Dean of NUBS China and Professor of Marketing and Innovation, with Professor Martin Lockett, Dean of NUBS China and Professor of Strategic Management, and Dr Sathyaprakash Balaji Makam, Associate Professor in Marketing also participating.
‘Marketing Management’ has been run for Year 3 International Business undergraduates for 13 years. The module provides a student-centred teaching model and integrates Chinese marketing case studies with a British-style syllabus to deliver a balanced international and local agenda.
In an English-language environment, ‘Marketing Management’ requires students to master the fundamental theories and research methodologies of marketing. Students identify issues related to the development of marketing strategy and are familiar with the marketing trends in different countries. The goals of the module are to improve students' knowledge of marketing theory and practice, including skills such as problem-solving, logical reasoning and teamwork.
The module’s distinctive features include passionate teaching staff from diverse countries and backgrounds, helping to imbue the course with an international perspective. Professor Martin Lockett, Dean of NUBS China, has taught at Cambridge and Oxford University as well as 16 years’ business experience, especially in Europe. Professor Martin Liu, Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange, has rich teaching and business experience in the UK, Canada and China. Students enjoy the active class atmosphere. He has published many articles in international journals on marketing and innovation. He also serves as the Executive Dean for the Zhejiang Provincial Branding Academy. Dr Sathyaprakash Balaji Makam, Head of Department for Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Management Systems, advocates ‘’Internet+ “ Education and brings modern technologies into teaching. He also serves as a reviewer for many leading marketing and business management journals. In addition to the School’s undergraduate students, exchange students from more than 20 countries and regions have taken the module. Multicultural exchange and communication help to integrate Chinese and Western viewpoints. Furthermore, the module promotes the integration of education and industry by inviting executives of well-known international and local brands as guest speakers. These senior industry figures help to stimulate student enthusiasm, improve their academic and practical abilities, as well as their employment prospects.
NUBS China, established in 2004, delivers first-class business programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive levels. Three modules of Marketing Management, Introduction to Management Science for Business Decisions and Introduction to Data Science: Big Data Analytics in Business were also earlier awarded the status of Provincial Level First Class Undergraduate Modules. NUBS China's Finance, Accounting and Management programme was awarded the status of National Level 'First Class' Undergraduate Programme in 2020, which made UNNC the first Sino-Foreign university with both a National First Class programme and First Class modules.
