NUBS Tri-Campus linkage builds global collaboration platform

15 March 2023

The NUBS Tri-Campus Conference 2023 was successfully held from 8 to 10 March. The conference brought together more than 200 academics and PhD students from Nottingham University Business School (NUBS) China, NUBS UK and NUBS Malaysia to build a high-level platform for global research collaboration through knowledge exchange.

Professor Kok Wei Khong, Dean of NUBS China, addressed that the Tri-Campus Conference provided an important and unique opportunity for academics to explore the latest research in business management, "Digitalisation and data analytics are transforming the way we do business. From artificial intelligence to blockchain, companies are increasingly relying on digital tools to improve their efficiency, streamline their processes and also enhance customer experience. In the post-pandemic period, it's really important for us to come together to really share our ideas and also see what future opportunities lie in our research."

The conference received around 60 paper submissions, of which PhD students and their supervisors co-authored more than half. This reflected NUBS's dense academic atmosphere and emphasis on talent development, said Professor Martin Liu, Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange.

The three-day NUBS Tri-Campus Conference covering a wide range of areas, including digitalisation and data analytics, accounting, financial markets, supply chains and other fields. The participants, by sharing what they are doing and learning from what their colleagues are currently working on, build awareness which may lead to potential collaborations and facilitate the formation of research clusters around areas of interest among the three campuses.

In addition, participants have the opportunity to receive feedback on their working papers and work that is in progress, and tailored advice on submissions to research conferences and academic journals. The conference helps academics to broaden their academic horizons and stimulate research ideas through high-level knowledge exchange.

The NUBS Tri-Campus Conference is an important milestone in bridging the research collaboration between the three campuses and is highly valued by NUBS UK, NUBS Malaysia and NUBS China. Professor Todd Landman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Nottingham said, "In line with the university's strategy of being a university without borders, our vision is to implement the idea of business without borders. We are working to enhance tri-campus collaboration across all our activities. We're also using our sites as significant nodes to develop further our internationalisation of research and education."

Dr Jason Pandya Wood, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Interim Dean of NUBS Malaysia, also emphasised that the conference is not just an academic conference, but plays an equally important role in the development of teaching and research curriculum.

Through the close tri-campus linkage, academics and students are given the opportunity to expand their experience in three regions of the world (China as the world's second-largest economy, the UK in Europe and Malaysia in ASEAN). This is an opportunity that few business schools can offer, either in China or elsewhere globally. The success of this Tri-Campus Conference once again highlights the unique strengths of the University of Nottingham as a truly global university.
