The Ningbo Social Science Academy recently unveiled the sixth round of philosophy and social science research bases in Ningbo. The International Talent Development Research Base and the New Rural Socio-Economic Resilience Research Base, both participated and led by Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China), were successfully selected. This selection signifies NUBS China's progressive achievements in supporting international talent development, bolstering the transformation and establishment of new rural areas, and promoting the social and economic growth of Ningbo.

International Talent Development Research Base

Utilising the international advantages of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), the International Talent Development Research Base is dedicated to several research areas including international talent policies, global talent and enterprise insight, international talent development and cross-cultural exchanges. It strives to devise innovative models that nurture international talent and offers intellectual support for talent in Ningbo's endeavour to expedite the building of a modern coastal metropolis.

Dr Jenny Dong, Deputy Party Secretary of UNNC, is the Director of the Base, with Professor Yanjun Guan from NUBS China IBM department providing chief expertise. The team, formed to augment talent internationalisation research and foster a multidisciplinary approach, consists of esteemed scholars, university presidents, deans, management and research staff from various faculties and departments at UNNC.

Professor Yanjun Guan, the Base's Chief Expert, emphasised the base's intent to harness the expertise of domestic and international scholars. The Base aims to redefine international high-end and industrial talents in the post-pandemic era, by combining theoretical perspectives with the realities of Ningbo, China and the world. It seeks effective methods to nurture young talents with international vision, thinking and standards, along with local knowledge and sentiments.

New Rural Socio-Economic Resilience Research Base

In the area of new rural development, people-centric socio-economic resilience is crucial. Ningbo's rural development requires the establishment of ties and interactions between the economy and social culture to effectively achieve rural resilience. This need has led to the creation of the New Rural Socio-Economic Resilience Research Base, which aims to tackle the challenges of rural resilience and development in Ningbo.

The New Rural Socio-Economic Resilience Research Base is led by Professor Martin Liu, Associate Dean of Research and Knowledge Exchange at NUBS China, with Dr Yi Wang, Associate Professor in Marketing, as Chief Expert. The Base unites exceptional research teams from NUBS China and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNNC. The team will use their expertise in business, economics and culture to foster the creation of top-tier government think tanks.

Professor Martin Liu, Director of the Base, shared that it will concentrate on international platforms and first-rate scholars, and rely on social science research bases to cultivate a comprehensive, high-end think tank and research team with domestic and even international influence. The team will propose solutions to the difficulties and challenges in rural resilience and development in Ningbo by conducting research in the socio-economic field, aiding in the local application of research results and providing high-quality decision-making suggestions and consultations.
