UNNCers wins second place in Asia at the Bloomberg 2022 Global Trading Challenge
14 December 2022
The Bloomberg 2022 Global Trading Challenge concluded recently, and the students of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) made history. Among more than 1,000 teams from over 200 top universities around the world, UNNC’s team “SAY12”, captained by Yuan Lanshun, won second place in Asia and Australasia, and thirteenth place in the world. This is also the best performance among all universities in the Greater China area.
Because it is completely synchronised with the real global stock market, the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge attracts many top university teams from around the globe to participate every year and the Challenge holds great influence. Every team is given $1 million virtual US dollars to invest in securities. In the one-month challenge, participants need to collect and analyse various data, and submit trade ideas in real-time according to their own judgment of global economic trends, the current performance of a company, and other factors. The final rankings are based on the investment income of each team at the end of the competition.
Participating in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge is an excellent opportunity for students to apply what they have learned in class to practice, and it also provides the rare experience of students getting as close as they can to the real financial market. Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China) has always been committed to training business elites, so it pays special attention to such practical competitions. This year, UNNC organised 47 student teams to participate led by Dr Tingting Ying and supported by the Finance Club. In addition to the team “SAY12”, the team “JEDIPADAWAN”, captained by Xuan Weize, and the team “The Waves”, captained by Xu Hening also achieved good results, ranking seventh and tenth respectively in Asia and Australasia.
Worth mentioning is that the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge needs to be conducted on Bloomberg terminals, and only universities equipped with more than three terminals can become “experiential learning partners” recognised by Bloomberg, and enjoy the privilege of an unlimited number of participating teams. NUBS China has world-class facilities, so students can use world-leading equipment at the School for learning, practice and research, laying a solid foundation for students to cope with the dynamic digital working environment of the future.
