NUBS China officially launches its Student Engagement and Employability Development Scheme

07 April 2023

On 25 March, Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China) officially launched its Student Engagement and Employability Development Scheme (SEED Scheme).

During the launch event, Ms Ye Hong, Tax Partner of Deloitte China, was invited to give a keynote speech to the students. Ms Ye Hong not only talked about the latest developments in the consulting industry but also gave the students many practical interview tips.

Ms Ye Hong has been directly involved in Deloitte's recruitment process for many years and said that for fresh graduates, while the company will consider the skills you already have, it will look more at the candidate's temperament and potential, especially their analytical ability and resilience. Hence, during the interview, if you are asked particularly tricky questions, do not panic and make a blunder. What the company wants is not a correct answer, but rather the ability to analyse and cope under stress through these types of questions. If you can break down these difficult questions calmly with a clear mind, that is definitely a bonus point.

In addition, candidates need to show a genuine interest in the position they are applying for and possess a coherent and convincing argument. If the interviewer senses that you don't know much about the position and are not enthusiastic enough but simply looking for a job, then they will be less than impressed.

Professor Sam Shen, Vice Provost for External Relations and Deputy Party Secretary of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and Professor Philip Seltsikas, Vice Provost for Education and Student Experience of UNNC, attended the event. They not only fully acknowledged the efforts of NUBS China in enhancing the practical experience of students, but also encouraged them to actively participate in the Scheme, to apply what they have learnt in the classroom into practice. Such participation will improve their employability and build a solid foundation for their future career development.

Professor Kok Wei Khong, Dean of NUBS China, and Professor Hing Kai Chan, Acting Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience of NUBS China, also said at the event that the business school has always been committed to developing "real-world" business elites, with a particular focus on direct links with the business world to ensure that what students learn in the classroom is closely related to real business.

In the afternoon session, Dr Wang Yi, Director for Educational Partnerships of NUBS China, gave a speech and Dr Lin Huang, Student Professional Engagement Coordinator of NUBS China, gave a detailed introduction to the Scheme. Afterwards, UNNC alumni and current Strategy Consulting Manager of Ernst & Young Bazilon, Mr Zhang Boyi, shared his career insights with the students.

According to Mr Zhang, it is not easy for many people to have clear self-awareness and an understanding of the world, which leads them to "free and useless" exploration, especially during university. Thus, self-exploration is a way to find your preferences, passions and ideals, and at the same time to understand how the world works. Then you can find the right career direction for your life.

In the afternoon session, representatives from the Bank of Communications, Bank of Ningbo, CITIC Securities, Guangbo Group Stock Co Ltd, Ningbo Welldon Manufacturing Co Ltd and Zhejiang Lera New Energy Power Technology Co Ltd gave presentations and exchanged ideas with the students from Finance, Accounting and Management programme and International Business programme.

NUBS China will be launching a series of exciting events through the SEED scheme in the coming days and we will keep you informed.
