Following the accreditation of BEng Architecture, BEng Architectural Environment Engineering and BEng Product Design and Manufacture, another four BEng programmes at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) have gained accreditation from world renowned institutions.

Accreditation is the mark of assurance that the BEng degree programmes meets the high standards set by the engineering profession and the UK industry regulator, the Engineering Council.

The accreditation also means that other countries that are signatories to international accords will recognise the UNNC qualification as substantially equivalent to those running in their jurisdiction. Getting an accredited degree gives UNNC graduates a competitive advantage with many employers.

UNNC’s BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering and BEng Mechatronic Engineering are accredited by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). IET is the largest multidisciplinary professional engineering institution in the world, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries.

BEng Mechanical Engineering is accredited by The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and The Institution of Engineering Designers (IED). Founded in 1945, IED is the UK’s only professional body representing those working in the fields of Engineering and Technological Product Design.

Licensed by the Engineering Council UK, IMechE provides accreditation of academic programmes from universities and colleges that drive young engineers toward professional registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.

“To become a registered Chartered Engineer, one has to complete the courses accredited by IMechE. IMechE is now the most famous engineering society in the world, representing the highest quality of engineer group and to pass the accreditation, the courses have achieved and maintained the highest quality of education,” said Xiaogang Yang, head of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering.

BEng Civil Engineering is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprised of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).

Students who complete both an accredited BEng degree plus accredited further learning to masters level will automatically fulfill the educational requirements for the Engineering Council UK’s register of chartered engineers without the need for additional academic assessment.

All the programmes at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China are set up and taught in line with the standard of The University of Nottingham in the UK, delivering research-led and practice-led teaching, emphasizing critical thinking, creativities and practical skills to meet the needs of industries and fostering talents into future engineers.

Visiting panels of international institutions were deeply impressed by the dedication of the staff at UNNC to delivering a high standard of British education in China, as well as the high quality of UNNC graduates.

The panels strongly commended UNNC staff for the excellent support given to students and acknowledged the high-quality laboratory facilities on site provide an excellent learning environment which is recognised and appreciated by the students.

They also noted that, the high level of engagement in the staff mobility scheme which enables staff to spend time on the other campuses in Malaysia and the UK is unique and fruitful and not found currently in Chinese universities.
