Ms Ao Xiying, a Finance, Accounting and Management graduate of Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China) shared with us her experiences of pursuing Doctor of Laws after working in a bank and then choosing to teach in a university, which she is passionate about.

After gradudating from NUBS China, she obtained a Master's Degree in Finance and Investment overseas. Xiying chose to return to China due to the diverse job opportunities and better development prospects, as well as to be closer with her parents. However, after working in a bank for a short period, she found that she was a misfit and bravely decided to pursue a PhD in 2012. In the next year, she was successfully enrolled as a new PhD candidate in law by the China University of Political Science and Law. She admitted that the process of the interdisciplinary study was not that easy, but it was worth it. Given the background of finance, she was able to learn and teach financial law more thoroughly. She is now acting as an Assistant Professor in Economic Law in the School of Law, Shenzhen University and enjoys her teaching and research greatly.

Looking back her university life at UNNC, she said that it was the professors who stimulated her enthusiasm for teaching and research. She was amazed by their spirit of travelling far away to a foreign land to educate the young generation. In the interview, she gave a lot of encouragement to our UNNC students, 'To be brave enough to change'.  In the future, she will continue walking on the academic road and hope to make contributions to the society.  Best wishes to Xiying!
