On 7 June 2025, the 10th International Symposium on Energy Science and Chemical Engineering (ISESCE 2025), hosted by University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and Zhejiang University of Technology was successfully held in Ningbo. It was organised by the UNNC Faculty of Science and Engineering, Advanced Energy and Environmental Materials & Technologies Research Group and the AEIC Academic Exchange Information Center, and co-organised by Zhejiang University, Y-Lab, Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Agder.
This symposium brought together top scholars from all over the world and attracted participants from universities and research institutions, including University of Iowa, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, The University of Nottingham, Southeast University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jiangsu University, Tianjin University, Nanjing Tech University.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Associate Professor Dr Di HU from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Professor Tao WU, Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering, delivered an enthusiastic speech on behalf of the organising committee and the University, extending a warm welcome to all distinguished guests and scholars who had traveled from afar. He also expressed sincere gratitude for their long-standing support and assistance in the development of the university's educational initiatives. He further noted that the convening of this symposium would significantly enhance collaboration and exchange between the university and the international academic community.
The keynote speeches session was hosted by Dr Di HU and Dr Hainam DO from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. This symposium invited seven renowned experts and scholars to deliver keynote speeches: Chair Professor Zhongchao TAN from Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, Professor Xudong ZHAO from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Professor Guangsuo YU from East China University of Science and Technology, Professor Ziyi GE from Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Angelos M. EFSTATHIOU from the University of Cyprus, Professor Haitao ZHAO from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Senior Engineer Peng JIANG from Shenzhen Gas Corporation. The experts shared their latest research progress, covering cutting-edge fields in energy and chemistry. With their profound insights and extensive research experience, they provided highly valuable academic inspiration to the attendees.
The afternoon parallel sessions also provided participants with a platform to showcase their research achievements and engage in intellectual exchange. Seventeen scholars from various universities and research institutions enthusiastically presented their work and shared innovative ideas. In addition, a total of eleven academic posters were exhibited on-site, attracting numerous scholars for visits and discussions, and offering young researchers an opportunity to gain recognition.
UNNC Faculty of Science and Engineering has been investing in cutting-edge scientific research, university-enterprise cooperation, talent cultivation, platform building, and professional exchange. We are committed to solving industrial problems, promoting industrial development, and contributing positively to the progress of society and the well-being of mankind. In May 2025, Engineering discipline ranked ESI top 0.2% with a total of four disciplines including Chemistry, Engineering, Environment/Ecology, and Materials Science listed in the top 1% globally. In addition, FoSE also owns provincial and municipal key laboratories dedicated to the fields of efficient utilisation of organic waste and pollutant control, transforming the performances into practical applications to serve local development.
Professor Cheng Heng Pang, the chair of the organising committee and also Head of the Advanced Energy and Environmental Materials and Technologies Research Group, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all organising units for their support, and to the experts and scholars for their active participation and valuable contributions. Through the exchange of the latest research findings and development trends, the symposium presented us with a rich feast of knowledge. The successful convening of this seminar has effectively advanced research progress in the fields of energy science and chemical engineering. It has facilitated interdisciplinary communication and collaboration as well as joint innovation for the future, playing an important role in driving innovation leadership and disciplinary development in energy science, chemical engineering, and related fields. Let us look forward to meeting again in the future to continue writing new chapters in scientific research!
