Professor Giampaolo Buticchi has taken the role as Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Nottingham Ningbo China since this September. He will lead the Faculty's research and discipline development.


Professor Giampaolo Buticchi majors in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and received his PhD degree at the University of Parma, Italy in 2013, with a focus on renewable energy systems and electrical engineering. During the PhD, he visited the University of Nottingham UK, where he started applying his research knowledge to electric drives systems for aerospace applications. Since then, he has been studying the control systems and the architectures of the power electronics for several systems, with the objectives of improving the reliability and the efficiency.

Giampaolo Buticchi has extensive working experience in international academia. He worked as research fellow in Italy (University of Parma) and as a scientific staff member/lecturer in Germany (University of Kiel). Giampaolo Buticchi is a leading academic in the area and has published more than 240 peer-reviewed papers and has received several famous international (including the Fellowship of the Royal Aeronautical Society) and national awards.

He joined the University of Nottingham Ningbo China in 2017 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He also held several roles within the University: Postgraduate Programme Director of the Power Electronics, Machines and Control Research Group (PEMC), Head of Department in the Nottingham Yuyao Electrification Center (NEC) and Research Group Lead of the Faculty Research Committee within the FoSE.

As the Associate Dean for Research and Knowledge Exchange at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, UNNC, Professor Giampaolo Buticchi will contribute to the development of the Faculty's conducive research environment, further enhance the university's outstanding research strengths.

Professor Giampaolo Buticchi said: “UNNC is a wonderful platform for research, with highly motivated staff members and students. With many national and international collaborations and several possibilities offered by the Municipal, Provincial and National governments to carry out world-class research, I am really excited to take on this new role. I believe in the people, and my objective is to put them in a condition to express their full research potential through training activities and through the research group structure. I am also committed to support, as Faculty, groups of researchers to tackle ambitious, inter-disciplinary, and paradigm-changing research projects.”
