Recently, Green e Campus was officially launched in the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). Supervised by Dr David Edwards, acted by students, and cooperated with NetSpring (a social enterprise in China), Green e Campus is a new project that offers the opportunity to donate your old laptop for recycling and reuse in Chinese rural schools.
The goals of green computing are to reduce the impact of hazardous materials, maximise energy efficiency and maximise the recyclability or biodegradability of dis-guarded products. We are now ethically and socially required to green our IT products, applications, services, and practices.
End-of-life computers and mobiles are of little value to the owner but they are a cherished commodity in many areas of the world, including China. Through reuse their lifespan can be increased by several years. For the children in these areas this is invaluable and has a lasting positive impact in their lives and on that of their families.
Green e campus can benefit society, the university and the environment by improving energy efficiency, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, using less harmful materials, and encouraging reuse and recycling.
How involved will you be in Green e Campus?
1. Clear the personal information carried by the donated electronic equipment. (You will be asked to sign a short agreement at the time of donation to confirm that all personal data has been erased from the device.)
2. Bring your electronic equipment to the UNNC IT service desk (PB-302) for donation.
3. The donor will become our Green e Campus cardholder.
