2022 UNNC Education Foundation Charitable Projects Showcase - University of Nottingham Ningbo China

In recent years, the Education Foundation has been guided by pre-set goals and objectives: to optimise its own management; improve project quality; cultivate a philanthropic culture at UNNC; and further enhance the reputation of the Foundation and university.

In 2022, 48 projects and sub-projects successfully went ahead, with a total charitable expenditure of RMB 16 million. They include scholarships and awards, funds to promote innovation and entrepreneurship and student activity, and much, much more.

Abundant scholarship and student award programmes enable students to showcase themselves, develop in a well-rounded way, and pursue their dreams. The innovation and entrepreneurship fund programmes encourage teachers and students to put innovative ideas into practice, supporting this mindset as an institution. The student activities fund projects support a variety of activities to enrich students’ extracurriculars. The Public lecture projects invite experts and scholars to teach and explore social issues with our students. Social welfare projects support rural English teachers to improve their teaching ability. The Li Dak Sum Chair Professorship project fully enhances the teaching, research and innovation capability of the university, and the Investment in Internet Provision in Student Accommodation project optimises the on-campus study and living experience.

These projects embodied the humanistic care and social responsibility of the university and received wide attention and high praise from the local and international communities.

This year, two projects—the Music Library and the Li Dak Sum Innovation Fellowship Fund—received high commendations. The Li Dak Sum Innovation Fellowship is now in its fourth year. More than 30 projects in all have received funding support from the Li Dak Sum Innovation Fellowship over the past four years. This year, all academic staff and PhD students are eligible to apply for the fund. With 14 projects selected (higher than in previous years) they span a wide spectrum of research areas. The funded projects have generated over 30 intellectual properties, 29 prototypes, and more than 25 partners from industry and academia.

One of the new funding initiatives launched in 2021 is the Music Library, whose numerous activities have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and teachers. Since the formal debut of online music libraries in March 2022, anybody can now take advantage of the fantastic experiences that music has to offer, wherever they are. Closing Time Melody invited student pianists to perform publicly before the library is closed. Students' fatigue was washed away by the night's music when they left the library. Music appreciation sessions, instrument lessons, and other courses can develop listeners' musical literacy and appreciation skills.
