UNNC architecture students have displayed their work
The exhibition, entitled Creating Spaces on the Cube, showcases the work of students over the past academic year.
The striking cube-shaped structures symbolise earth in China and are arranged to simulate urban spaces, alleyways, streets, blocks and squares.
Lanterns fly away from the cubes, taking with them messages from students about their dreams and aspirations.
The exhibition is on in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB) atrium until Wednesday 25 September, and students built it themselves, designing the displays and constructing the exhibition area.
They were advised and supervised by the architecture design studio team at the University, while the Department of Architecture and Built Environment and Faculty of Science and Engineering provided necessary technical support.
As part of the exhibition opening, students were presented prizes for their work over the past year. Winners were Xiaotong Jang (best work in preliminary year), Dekai Zhang (best qualifying year portfolio), Enran Zhang (best part one portfolio) and Titi Fang (best overall progress in the 2012-13 academic year).
Dr Shibu Raman, Course Director for Architecture, said: “The exhibition is the culmination of students’ hard work over the course of this year.
“As future architects it’s crucial that they are able to present their work in a visually-appealing way that conveys the messages behind it.
“This show gives visitors a sense of UNNC’s philosophical, theoretical and technical discourses on architecture in China.”
