The 10th conference in the ICOIE (International Conference on Open and Innovative Education) series was held in Hong Kong, July 4th to 6th. The first of these conferences was held in 2014 in the Hong Kong Open University (now renamed as the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). As in previous years, ICOIE attracted a lot of excellent papers from around the world, including six from UNNC, four of which with coauthors from the UNNC School of Computer Science (CS). Two of these papers also had undergraduate students as coauthors, underlying a trend of successful collaborations between staff and students yielding good publications and research publicity. This year, one of these papers, with the CS 2023 graduate Joseph Thenara, won an Excellent Paper award. The paper's details are:
Boon Giin Lee, Matthew Pike, Joseph Thenara and Dave Towey (2023), "Fighting Fires with Mixed Reality: The Future of Fire Safety Training and Education", In Proceedings of the 2023 International Conference on Open and Innovative Education (ICOIE), Metropolitan University of Hong Kong, pp. 166-182.
One of the lead authors said: "Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Joseph THENARA and Linijing SUN on their successful acceptance of their papers for the ICOIE conference, both of which are the results of their final year projects. In general, collaborating on papers with undergraduate students, despite the challenges posed by their limited experience in crafting writing styles, has been a truly enjoyable experience for me. I greatly admire their enthusiasm and dedication, and I look forward to engaging in further and deeper collaborations with ambitious and motivated students in the future"
UNNC has an excellent track record with ICOIE, including a large number of the papers being published in related high-quality journals.
