In the second training session of 2024 Summer Student Research Project on ESG Finance, the Centre invited Dr Liang Dong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Public and International Affairs at the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, to deliver an online lecture titled "Carbon Emissions in the Financial Sector: Concepts, Accounting Methods, and Policy Implications".
This training estimated the financed emissions of major banks in Chinese mainland, highlighting the carbon emission profiles of various industries and banks, and comparing them with global counterparts. It underscored the importance of data precision and methodological rigor, offering guidance for future research and initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the financial sector. Participants gained a profound understanding of the critical role financial institutions play in achieving carbon neutrality.
