In Dec 2021, Associate Professor Dr Juan Wang in the Department of Civil Engineering at UNNC was awarded two research funds from Zhejiang and Ningbo Natural Science Foundation (NSF).

Dr. Juan Wang is the lead investigator of the Zhejiang NSF project, “Shakedown Analysis of Pile Group in Sand under Cyclic Lateral Loads and Its Deformation Development Mechanism.”

“Pile group foundations of large scale infrastructures are often subjected to cyclic lateral loads caused by traffic, wind or waves.” Dr Juan Wang explained. “Their responses and deformation are distinct from single piles. However, the pile group-sand interaction mechanism is yet to be studied in-depth considering the cyclic lateral loads, and there is a lack of a rigorous method in predicting the long-term deformation of group pile foundations.”

“This project aims to address these critical issues.” Dr Juan Wang summarized. “The results of this project will lay a solid base for the establishment of an evaluation method for the long-term stability of pile group foundations.”

Dr Juan Wang also received the Ningbo NSF project, “Research on the Deformation of Biopolymer-Treated Waste Soils under Traffic Loads.” as the lead investigator.
