On Friday 15th January 2021, the Department of Civil Engineering hosted the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) meeting to review current departmental activities from an industry perspective and seek for advice from the professionals in the construction industry to enhance the undergraduate learning experience and assist the department with its strategic development. The attendees at the meeting included Civil Engineering staff, Industrial representatives such as Andrew Luong from ARUP Shanghai, Simon Spooner from Atkins Global, Zoe Zhou from Tongji Architectural and Design Co. Ltd, Jun Lin from Ningbo Institute of Surveying and Mapping and Tianxin Zheng from Tianfon Green Assembly Group, student representatives and alumni representatives. Due to the Covid-19, most of industrial and alumni representatives joined the meeting online.
In the meeting, Dr. Yung-Tsang Chen, Head of Department, introduced current state of department. Dr. Bo Li presented curriculum update and graduate statistics in 2020. Student representative, Mr Mi Li, who graduated in 2016 and currently works in the China Construction Second Engineering Bureau LTD. East China Company, shared his experiences at UNNC and in the work. Industrial representatives commented that programming skill such as Python is important for employees. Moreover, they’d like to provide more internship opportunities for Civil Engineering students in different locations such as Shanghai, Ningbo and Henan province.
