Professor Ruibin Bai, the Deputy Head of Computer Science and Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange for the Faculty of Science and Engineering, has been awarded with Zhejiang Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars with the amount of 0.25million RMB for his project “Freight service network design optimisation and its applications”.


Ruibin Bai is now a professor in the School of Computer Science. His current research interests include computational intelligence, machine learning, operations research, modelling, scheduling and optimisation with a special focus on transportation systems. During his time at UNNC, he has been awarded 3 NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) grants, 2 from Zhejiang Province and 3 from Ningbo Sci&Tech. Bureau) as principal investigator, with total fund of RMB 3.25m (approximately GBP33.8K). He has published 22 journals articles (18 of which SCI indexed). He has also been awarded with a number of research talent titles including Qianjiang Talent, Ningbo Top-Notch Talent, Ningbo 4321 Talent, Ningbo Chinese and Overseas Chinese Outstanding Award.

Zhejiang Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars supports Zhejiang based scholars, who have achieved excellent contribution in basic research, to conduct innovative research, speed up the growth of young talented scientists, and foster a group of prominent academic pacemakers in the forefront of science and technology of the country and around the world. This scheme is really competitive and funds around 50 excellence scholars each year.
