Student designs have been honoured with prizes in the Italy-based A'Design Awards and the USA-based International Design Awards, both of which celebrate design talent and creative ideas.

Meanwhile, a number of student designs won in various categories of the International Design Awards, including a virtual sketch assistant, an easily adjusted flexible sofa, a sofa that can turn into a children’s’ play tent and a clothes hanger that tell you if your clothes are still wet, all of which won in the gold category of the awards.
A design for a PM2.5 indicator won in the gold category having previously attracted international attention, while UNNC student designs also won in the silver and bronze categories of the awards.
Additionally, Yuxiang Sun, Qingli Chen and Dr Shih were nominated in the 'Emerging Designers of the Year' category, the results of which will be announced at a gala event in Los Angeles on 4 May.
Dr Yiteng Shih, who supported many of the students in developing their ideas and designs, said: “It’s fantastic that UNNC product design and manufacturing students are having their design work recognised by international awards. The exposure these awards can give their work is extremely valuable in building their portfolios and experience.
“These award wins are also testament to the innovative teaching environment and support from departmental and faculty levels we have here at UNNC, which helps enrich our student winners in terms of their design experience, creativity and future development.”
Professor Xiaogang Yang, Head of Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing, congratulated the winners and expressed his support for the department’s innovative teaching initiatives.
