Professor Chris Gerada has taken over as the new Dean of Ningbo Nottingham International Academy for Marine Economy and Technology (IAMET). He replaces Acting Dean Professor Mike George, whose term as Vice-Provost will expire in July.
Professor Gerada brings a wealth of research experience with him from the University of Nottingham - one of the world’s leading institutions in the area of developing technologies for transport electrification. Together with his team, he has been heavily involved in developing electrical ship propulsion technology as well as energy generation from renewable sources.
Speaking about his appointment, Chris Gerada expressed anticipation of the challenges that lay ahead. “I am thrilled to take up this new role of leading IAMET,” he said. “In the year ahead we will be looking to move into our new building with state-of the art facilities to support and grow the current research and knowledge transfer activities.”
Announcing the appointment, Provost Chris Rudd also acknowledged Acting Dean Mike George’s time at IAMET, saying “Mike has been responsible for creating a portfolio of exciting projects”. He added that Professor George had helped considerably to boost the knowledge exchange reputations of UNNC and the city of Ningbo.
Launched in 2014, IAMET is a centre of excellence for marine-related research and business engagement. It provides support for multi-disciplinary projects spanning fields as varied as energy generation, propulsion systems and environmental management.
