Dr. Jing Xie and PhD student Mr. Kejun Shao (Kevin) from the Department of Architecture and Built Environment have participated in the international Young Planning Professional’s Workshop (YPP) held by ISOCARP in Ningbo August 2019. Ms. Qinqing Jiang, year 2 student from the Business School of UNNC also supported Jing’s team during the workshop as a volunteer.

The theme of the Ningbo YPP workshop in 2019 is “Children-friendly Urban Planning.” Mingdong community has been selected as the first neighborhood to explore this transformation. A child-friendly approach for urban planning, helps to achieve several goals like health, safety, participation and citizenship, environmental sustainability and prosperity, not only for the children but for their caretakers and their communities.

The team members including Iva Shokoska, Viviana Cordero, Yiwen Jin, Chenhong Xia, and Kejun Shao, with the tutor Jing Xie, have produced the following proposal, transforming the current neighborhood from a maze to (A)MAZED place.
