FoSE contributed to build a new model of high-level high school education in Ningbo

On the 22nd April, Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) in University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) signed an agreement with Zhejiang Cixi Hanvos Yucai High School. In the following five years, FoSE will support Cixi Hanvos Yucai High School to build “Science and Technology Innovation Class”, building a new teaching model for cultivation of more innovative students and their interests in science and technology.

In the future cooperation, Faculty of Science and Engineering will send experts to help review the curriculum of the S&T Innovation Class and bring the high-level S&T public lecture to students in the S&T Innovation Class. The topic will include but not limited to artificial intelligence, aerospace, product design and manufacture, environmental science, energy and materials and mathematical modeling. Students in the S&T Innovation Class will also have the opportunity to take part in the research and practical workshop in the FoSE.

As the first Sino-foreign University to open its doors in China, University of Nottingham Ningbo China has achieved significant success in delivering excellent teaching, research innovation, knowledge exchange and social services in the past 17 years. This international outlook enables our academic staff to work with the very best and enables students worldwide to benefit from a University of Nottingham education.

Faculty of Science and Engineering, as one of the three faculties in the University, has endeavoured to provide a world-class science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, underpinned by our internationally leading research.

The latest ESI report shows that the Engineering discipline in the UNNC is ranked top 0.5% globally, which showcases a big step forward in terms of the discipline construction.

Professor Tao Wu, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering, attended this ceremony introducing the remarkable achievements made by the University and the Faculty. He is happy to see there are more and more young generation has interests into the science and technology and he believes that the S&T Innovation Class will provide a platform for them to get in touch with the cutting-edge research in the Faculty.

Professor Changhui Hua highlighted the role university played in the transform of education in China, making students to actively explore the knowledge they have interests in and critical thinking capability. He is happy to promote the successful pilot further among local high schools.

The agreement was signed by Professor Tao Wu, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering and Mr Bozhan Lu, President of Cixi Hanvos Yucai High School. Professor Changhui Hua, representatives from Cixi Education Bureau and Hanvos Education Group, academic staff representatives from FoSE, Dr Jian Yang, Dr Bencan Tang and Dr Jing Bie, Faculty Operation Director Robin Hong, teachers and students from the Cixi Hanvos Yucai High School presented the signing ceremony.
