About
The University of Nottingham Mathematical Modeling Competition 2026 challenges undergraduate students to tackle a real-world biomedical problem using mathematical modeling. Students will develop, analyse, and simulate a mathematical model for antimicrobial resistance transmission in a hospital setting. This competition is open to students across all three University of Nottingham campuses: UNNC (Ningbo, China), UoN UK (Nottingham, UK), and UNM (Semenyih, Malaysia). The use of AI tools is actively encouraged — but you are the researcher. Evaluation focuses on your critical thinking, biological reasoning, and the quality of your scientific work.
Who can participate?
- Any undergraduate student at UNNC, UoN UK, or UNM.
- The competition is open to anyone with an interest in mathematical modeling.
- Both individual participation and teams of up to 5 members are accepted. Teams are self-organised. All members must be from the same campus.
