16 November: The 2024 winter graduation ceremony of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was held. Over 900 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral graduates celebrated this lifetime milestone with family and friends.
Professor Xincheng Xie, President of UNNC, presided over the graduation ceremony, extending congratulations to all graduates for the outstanding and successful completion of their studies.
Professor Jon Garibaldi, Provost and of UNNC, then delivered a welcome speech. "Graduation truly is a time of reflection, celebration, and anticipation. It marks the start of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities and opportunities. Now, I encourage you to reflect on the 'Nottingham values' that have guided you to this point. Your time here has not simply been about acquiring knowledge; you have cultivated a mindset that values curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy."
Professor Jane Norman, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, UK, also sent a message addressing the graduates: "Your graduation marks a transition - from student to graduate and valued member of our alumni community, a global network of more than 320,000 of our former students. I look forward to seeing everything you go on to achieve after today. This is the pinnacle of one great achievement, but you will go on to great things and celebrate many future achievements too."
Professor Laura Bishop, Vice Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange of UNNC, also extended her heartfelt wishes. "The world needs innovators, problem solvers, and compassionate leaders, and I am confident that each of you has the potential to be just that. Take risks, challenge the status quo, and never underestimate the power of your ideas."
Among this year's graduates, many will work in leading global companies or domestic enterprises and institutions, such as KPMG Huazhen, Deloitte, GF Bank, Xiaomi, Sinopec, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Zhejiang University Shaoxing Research Institute. As they embark on their new journey, the graduates sincerely thank their university and convey their hopes and confidence for what lies ahead.
Xinzhe Jiang, a graduate of International Studies, reflects fondly on the diverse campus life at UNNC. She remarks, "The campus is alive with extracurricular activities where everyone can find their niche. The UNNC approach to teaching and the course has significantly boosted my overall capabilities." Xinzhe is set to embark on her professional journey at JD.
In a gesture of heartfelt farewell, UNNC has crafted thoughtful graduation presents for its graduates. These include teddy bears adorned with the university crest, a bespoke "Alumni Handbook" filled with career guidance, industry analysis, networking advice, a commemorative 2024 badge, and an alum gift bag crafted from sustainable materials. These tokens welcome the new graduates into the expansive Nottingham alum network.
The graduation ceremony, live-streamed for a global audience, was a warm embrace of support, with cordial blessings from loved ones illuminating the graduates' journey ahead.
