The trip was a unique experience of the traditional Chinese New Year and the local rural life. Following guidance, the staff and students toured around the village and practiced rural manual work like firewood chopping, rice popping, “Qingtuan” dumpling making.

“The most appealing activity of the day was making Chinese popcorn in the traditional way, which is just like magic," said William, a student from the UK.

“My favourite was the ‘Ten Dishes of Dayan’ from the local family,” said Liam, a student from Saudi Arabia. “Each dish has its own story.”

UNNC students and staff hail from over 70 countries and regions. Concerning the risks of travelling caused by the pandemic, UNNC has organised a series of diverse activities to encourage students to remain in Ningbo over the winter break.

Approximately 170 students will remain on campus over the break. The University will continue to provide them with support and on-campus facilities, including the library, canteen, sports centre and mailroom, will be available.

“The University has organised several trips, yoga sessions and dance classes to help us enjoy a safe and warm winter break on campus,” said Huijie from Shijiazhuang.
