In the quiet halls of Wang Yangming’s former residence in Yuyao, tradition meets tomorrow. Here, undergraduate students from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) are reimagining ancient philosophy through the lens of cutting-edge technology.

Among them, Jiayu Fan lights the way—quite literally—with a holographic night lamp that brings Yangming’s wisdom to life in 3D animations. Nearby, Yiging Chen’s interactive design invites visitors on a reflective journey, exploring the cultivation of inner virtue and clarity of mind. It’s a conversation across centuries—a bold fusion of heart, mind, and innovation.

Since establishing the Yangming Cultural Research Base in 2019, UNNC has integrated this heritage site into a living classroom. The partnership has yielded remarkable results, including student Hengyue Liu's award-winning design exhibited at Milan Design Week earlier this year.

"Through ingenious concepts and innovative designs, we transform Yangming's philosophy into tangible embodiments, allowing global audiences to engage with the splendour of China's traditional culture," said Professor Jun Liang (John) Zhou, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at UNNC.
