As the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) celebrated 15 years since its foundation, fifteen of the University’s most prominent student societies presented gifts to commemorate the occasion, which also featured an opening performance of classical music by a student string trio.
Dance, children’s art and a tower-shaped birthday cake were all on show as the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) celebrated 15 years since its foundation on Wednesday.
Fifteen of the University’s most prominent student societies presented gifts to commemorate the occasion, which also featured an opening performance of classical music by a student string trio.

In his acknowledgment speech, UNNC Provost Nick Miles reflected on the challenges that the University has overcome in the years since it first opened the campus gates back in 2004.
“I am so pleased to be here today to celebrate our fifteenth birthday,” he said. “Fifteen years ago, this was a risk for my colleagues, but the greatest risk was taken by the original students and their parents. Now look at it!”
“When I meet alumni across the world from here, they always talk about UNNC. It all started here in the classrooms and the societies,” he added.
Among the gifts was a hand painting done by children of a school in Gansu Province, where members of the UNNC Young Volunteers Association have been performing charity work for several years. Nick Miles also unveiled a giant mosaic of student photos - a gift from the Department of Campus Life.
The event concluded with a series of dances performed by members of UNNC’s numerous artistic student societies.
