According to the "World’s Top 2% Scientists" list recently published by Stanford University and Elsevier, 39 scholars of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) are included in the single year database and 21 scholars in the career-long database, both showing an increase from the previous year. Among them, 13 are from the Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute.

The listed scholars include leading figures in various fields, such as Professor Xincheng Xie, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Jon Garibaldi, an expert in artificial intelligence, Professor Guoping Qiu, who ranks in the top 0.5% globally in artificial intelligence and image processing, and Professor Alain Chong, a leading information systems scientist ranked in the top 50 globally in his career database.

There are also outstanding young faculty members, such as Professor Haonan Li, Zhejiang Province's leading talent and the recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Professor Guang Zhu, who received a national award for innovation in industry-university-research collaboration and Dr Sadia Jamil, a member of the editorial board of 6 major international journals.

The research areas of the listed scholars are diverse, covering artificial intelligence and image processing, energy, nanoscience and technology, networking and telecommunications, electrical and electronic engineering, environmental sciences, analytical chemistry, and applied physics, all closely related to national and regional strategic emerging industries and future industries.

This reflects the significant achievements UNNC has made in developing high-level academic talent teams and top-tier disciplines, and injecting new momentum into academic research and regional industrial innovation.

In recent years, UNNC has continued to attract top global talent, grounded in a solid educational foundation. About one third of scholars listed this year, including Guoping Qiu, Ibrahim Khan, Imran Mahmood Khan, Jon Garibaldi, Jiatao Li (visiting professor), Jiang Liu (visiting professor), Jodi Woan Fei Law, Julian Henderson (visiting professor), Learn-Han Lee, Linlin Shen (visiting professor), Loh Teng Hern Tan, Ruili Wang (visiting professor), Saurav Goel (visiting professor), Xincheng Xie (listed alphabetically), are internationally renowned scholars who have joined in this year. Their joining has significantly enhanced the university’s teaching and research capabilities.

Over the past five years, UNNC’s normalised citation impact for research publications has reached 1.52, surpassing the C9 average of 1.41. These achievements result from UNNC’s commitment to internationalisation, construction of a modern governance system, and continuous optimisation of the academic environment.

Professor Laura Bishop, Vice Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange expressed her sincere congratulations to all the outstanding scientists recognised in the list, "At UNNC, we are committed to developing research excellence and to fostering an environment where our researchers thrive. Our scientists make a tangible difference, both locally and globally. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our distinguished scientists on this well-deserved recognition of their commitment to advancing the frontiers of knowledge and innovation. We look forward to supporting their continued success and celebrating many more achievements in the years ahead."

Looking ahead, with the continued influx of exceptional scholars and ongoing research breakthroughs, UNNC will further advance cutting-edge research in key areas and promote industry-university-research collaborations to contribute to scientific progress and societal development.
