It is with great sorrow that we have heard of the passing of President Yang Fujia.

At the British Council we remember him for his roles as Chancellor of the University of Nottingham UK, and his influence in establishing the University of Nottingham Ningbo. His support for the first sino-foreign university, the first of its kind, nearly 20 years ago demonstrated his vision and foresight. As President of Nottingham Ningbo he will always be remembered for his focus on academic quality and his interest in supporting young talent. He was an exemplar of values we hold dear, building bridges between the UK and China, upholding excellence in education, providing opportunities for young people. His contribution over the years has led to the outstanding reputation and success of Nottingham Ningbo today.

Please extend our sympathies to his family and friends, and to your faculty and students at this difficult time. He will be well remembered by us all.

With our very best wishes
