Professor Tao Wu Appointed as Honorary Vice Principal of Local Middle School
28 April 2024
On 25 April, a prestigious ceremony at Yinglin Academy marked the appointment of Professor Tao Wu, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Professor of Chemical Engineering, as Honorary Vice Principal of this esteemed middle school.
In the ceremony, Mr. Haihao Wang, the Principal of Yinglin Academy, delivered a speech welcoming all the staff and students of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) before conferring the appointment letter on Professor Tao Wu.
Professor Wu said that it was a great honour to be appointed, and he was very grateful to the teachers and students of Yinglin Academy for their trust and support. Meanwhile, he mentioned that strengthening quality education and comprehensively enhancing students' innovative thinking are crucial in our fast-developing society.
Dr Jing Bie, Assistant Professor of Traffic Engineering, presented a lecture on "Introduction to Bridge Engineering" to the students of Yinglin Academy. Dr Bie's intriguing lecture, which used many case studies and pictures, profoundly explained the basic structure of bridges and some typical types of bridges.
The students participated enthusiastically, posing numerous insightful questions to Dr Bie about bridge engineering. This lecture not only deepened their understanding but also sparked their curiosity in science and engineering fields.
The event also featured support from the Science and Engineering Student Association (SESA). Qiushi Gao, a SESA member and second-year Statistics student, hosted this ceremony. Previously, SESA organised a visit to Yinzhou Foreign Language School, another local middle school, and presented the students there with a magical science class.
At the beginning of this semester, FoSE launched another project called "FoSE Research Journal Lecture," sharing our research outputs both online and offline, and enlightening the spark of inspiration in the science and engineering studies of the next generation. In the first session, Professor Xiaosu Yi delivered a fantastic lecture about multifunctional composite technology and green materials. Approximately 400 local students, school teachers, and parents attended the session.
FoSE will continue to contribute to the science education of young generations by bridging cutting-edge science and technology with basic education, constantly providing more educational resources to local students.
