A One Health Approach Workshop held at CBI

On 10th August, a workshop on 'A One Health Approach’ organized by Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute was successfully held. The event also invited the experts and industry leaders who are well-known in China and globally, to share their wisdom and ideas for tackling issues, like antibiotic resistance.
This workshop aims to promote the international academic cooperation, and explore the latest breakthroughs and innovative methods in the field of smart food, as well as the impact of smart food on antibiotic resistance infection management.
Professor Tao Wu, Vice President from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) emphasized in his opening speech the complex problems faced by the increasingly interconnected world and the necessity of innovation collaboration. He pointed out that the concept of "One Health" reflects this spirit, which means that we should be aware of the direct interconnection between human health, animal health, and ecosystem health. Professor Wu Tao encourages attendees to fully utilize their expertise and characteristics in their respective professional fields, fully express their research, experiences, and perspectives on this important topic, and jointly develop comprehensive strategies and solutions to contribute to the long-term well-being of humanity worldwide.
Dr. Jack Bobo who invited from the University of Nottingham, UK gave a detailed introduction on the background of the newly launched Food Systems Institute at the University of Nottingham and the importance of its scientific development. The launch of this new institute provides a new opportunity and research platform for cross-disciplinary exchanges and cooperation in UK and global, attracting researchers from multiple research areas to explore and research together in the cross field such as life health and food safety. In the future, the Institute is expected to become a leader in interdisciplinary fields in the UK and internationally, and further consolidate the University of Nottingham's international reputation as the only university in the UK to provide food teaching and research, and its position in scientific innovation. At the conference, Dr. Jack Bobo also shared a series of cutting-edge research projects currently underway at the Institute, which is working on the environmental, price economic and nutritional models of replaceable proteins through systematic approaches. He explained in detail from the core enabling technology, reactive protein research to pilot product evaluation and industry adoption.
Ningbo Yongzheng Investment Co., Ltd. currently focuses on two major sectors: comprehensive project development and industrial investment projects. For industrial investment projects, the cooperation projects being carried out between the company and Zhenhai Refining and Chemical are closely related to green petrochemical and green energy. As a representative of the enterprise, Ms. Ma participated in this workshop, and exchanged and learned with the research institute and industry peers. Ms. Ma believes that attending this symposium can help business representatives understand the latest research results and solutions in the industry, thereby promoting the development of enterprises in the fields of green petrochemicals and green energy.
Ruoqi Wang, a prospective doctoral student from grade of year 2023 at China Beacons Institute, stated that as researchers, they are often easily trapped in specific fields of research, and the current research trend is towards to the collaboration. For example, there is a certain correlation between antibiotic research and fields such as medicine and food. This event gave her the opportunity to meet people from different industries and fields to understand their perspectives.
This event provides a platform for communication and cooperation between experts and academicians from China and the UK, promoting cooperation in safeguarding human, animal, and ecosystem health. China Beacons Institute will continue to strength the cooperation among all parties, jointly promote the research and practice of the 'A One Health Approach’, and make greater contributions to the health of humans and ecosystems.
