UNNC's leap into smart library management image3

Today, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has officially launched its innovative Robotic Book Processing Automation system. By leveraging artificial intelligence and industrial automation technology, the system has slashed the processing time for new books from 20 working days to a mere 44 seconds. This transformation has revolutionised the traditional acquisition and cataloguing processes in libraries, positioning UNNC as the first university nationwide to adopt this state-of-the-art intelligent technology.

May Yan, Director of the UNNC Library, noted that the university has consistently been at the forefront of digitalisation, advancing alongside the development of artificial intelligence. The introduction of the automated system has relieved staff from repetitive, labour-intensive tasks, enabling them to focus on higher-priority, value-added activities.

Looking ahead, the Library plans to enhance the preview content of books by incorporating tables of contents, prefaces, abstracts, and additional information. This will empower users to more accurately and efficiently find the knowledge and answers they urgently seek, further boosting the research and academic productivity of the university's staff and students.
