Doctors are on duty at the campus clinic during the holiday

Responding to the concern over the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has decided to postpone the start date of the new semester to 24th February, 2020 for all students. For staff, the returning date is delayed accordingly to 10th February, 2020.

This arrangement may be adjusted if the University receives further notification from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education.

All students (except those who are currently living on campus) are not allowed to come back to the campus in advance. Students’ halls of residence will not be opened before 9am 22nd February, 2020.

The University strongly advises those who travel during the period to avoid crowded places such as hospitals, railway stations and airports.

Members of the UNNC community are urged to wear protective face masks when going out is necessary, and to strictly follow the standard recommendations provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), including hand and respiratory hygiene and safe food practices.

All students and staff should cooperate with the University departments on the implementation of prevention and control work. Anyone who has fever, cough and difficulty in breathing are not encouraged to come back to the campus before recovery.

Campus access control

Recently, all external visits will not be accepted until the University receives further notice from local government. All group activities will be canceled.

The University will temporarily implement the campus access control from 29th January, 2020, with Gate 1 and 4 opened only. All people and vehicle entering to the campus will be required for registration and temperature measurement. The campus will be disinfected regularly as well.

Health advice for infection prevention

WHO’s standard recommendations for the general public to reduce exposure to and transmission of a range of illnesses are as follows:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw tissue away immediately and wash hands;
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough;
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider;
  • When visiting live markets in areas currently experiencing cases of novel coronavirus, avoid direct unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals;
  • The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided. Raw meat, milk or animal organs should be handled with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.
