This funding will continue to aid us as we solve real problems and change lives. A huge thank you to Wanli Education Group (WEG) and an anonymous benefactor for their recognition of the importance of our mission.

WEG’s kind donation of RMB 200,000 will go towards the Dream Scholarship. The Dream Scholarship’s original donor was the late President Yang Fujia, whose initial donation in 2013 created the scholarship to support students with outstanding extracurricular performance in pursuing their dreams. There are three types of awards: Individual award, Group award, and Dream Fund for student organisations. Each award amount is 3,000 Yuan for the Individual award and 3,000 –10,000 Yuan for Group awards under the following categories: Science and Technology innovations, Practical activities, Public services, Sports, and Culture and Art activities. Each year, around 30 students and five student organisations will be selected and applications are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate UNNC students, and all registered student organisations, societies and sports teams.

The Dream Scholarship has over the years benefited more than 200 students and upwards of 30 student organisations.

An anonymous benefactor has further kindly donated RMB 300,000 to support ongoing work and research in the health sector at UNNC. A key research area at university, healthcare research has never been more important to society and the world as a whole. The recently established Chinese Beacons Institute highlights life sciences and healthcare as a key research area, and this funding will go far in the university’s aim to solve real life problems and make a positive impact globally.

Lei He, Deputy Director of Development in the Development and Alumni Relations Office said: “We are grateful for the ongoing support not just of the vital research that UNNC carries out, but also for the recognition of the importance of our students. Well-rounded students make for excellent global citizens, and the Dream Scholarship supports our students to unleash their full potential both inside and outside of the classroom.”

David Zhang, Director of the Department of Campus Life, commented: “Dream Scholarship was set up to inspire students especially those who would like to try new things and new ideas to apply what they have in mind to real-life scenarios. For years, it has been taken as one of the most important awards to recognize students’ creative endeavors. The rationale behind accords with the University’s goal of supporting students’ potential as well as fostering their creativity, discovery, and experiment. The donation to the Dream Scholarship will surely boost the innovative mindset of our students, and in due course consolidate the competitiveness of the University”.
