The President of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), Professor Yang Fujia, proposed the significance of diversifying higher education institutions at the latest Chinese central government symposium hosted by China’s Premier Li Keqiang.

President Yang was invited as an educational representative for his suggestions and comments on a draft version of the government work report. Representatives from the education, science and technology, culture, health, and sports sectors, as well as members of the public, also attended this symposium.

When debriefing his educational comments on the government report, President Yang emphasised the value of diversifying higher education institutions in China.

He said, “In developed countries, there are three main types of colleges---research universities, professional colleges, and general universities.” President Yang further explained that the societal development demands talents of multiple aspects, therefore we need different types of higher education institutions to accommodate this need.

Premier Li echoed President Yang’s viewpoint by stressing the importance of education to the national and societal development.
