The Shanghai Ranking is one of the world's leading higher education evaluation institutions. The GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators such as research output, international academic awards, and international collaboration. The 2023 GRAS contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. More than 1,900 out of 5,000 universities across 104 countries and regions are included in the listings.

This year, UNNC’s Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Materials Science and Engineering, made it onto the GRAS list for the first time, the former was successfully placed in the top 20 in the Chinese mainland. In addition, Business Administration and Management has been on the list for four consecutive years now, with Business Administration ranked amongst 6-12 in the Chinese mainland.

Internationalisation and impact are the two strong advantages of UNNC's shortlisted subjects. In terms of international collaboration in publications, both UNNC's Business Administration and Management rank first among Chinese universities (including hereinafter Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan); Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering ranked third. In terms of the index of category normalised citation impact, UNNC placed first in China under the subject Hospitality and Tourism Management, while Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering secured top ten nationwide.

As a key member of the University of Nottingham global educational system, UNNC continues to leverage its global network to introduce world class academic resources and recruit international talent. All current UNNC academic staff have experience teaching or conducting research at world-class universities. The proportion of international teachers exceeds 60%, including industry leaders and world-renowned academics such as “Highly Cited Researchers” and “World Top 2% Scientists”.

Up to now, approximately half of UNNC’s undergraduate programmes have been awarded with national and provincial “First-Class” status. Over 70% of programmes of the Faculty of Science and Engineering have been certified by authoritative international associations, and the engineering discipline ranks in the top 0.27% of the world's Essential Science Indicators (ESI). The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Linguists, and social sciences has entered the world’s top 0.6% of ESI. Nottingham University Business School China obtained accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which only less than 6% of business schools in the world hold, and the European Quality Improvement System.

In the future, UNNC will continue to focus on providing high-quality international education, dedicated to cultivating outstanding talents with an international perspective, innovative capabilities, and a sense of social responsibility, while empowering students through excellent teaching and learning, first-class scientific research and abundant extracurricular activities.
