Professor Patrick Chau elected as next President of Association for Information Systems

Professor Patrick Chau has been elected as the next President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS)! He will take up office as President-elect on 1st September 2020 and become President a year later.

Founded in 1994, Association for Information Systems, AIS, is the premier academic association in the Information Systems field with around 5,000 members from close to 100 countries around the world.

Professor Patrick Y.K. Chau is Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Information System and Vice Provost for Research at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC). 

Professor Chau is known for his research in IT adoption/ implementation and electronic commerce. His current research focuses on (1) how organisations can do better in the electronic commerce era especially with the influx of social media, (2) management of information security issues in the electronic commerce environment and in the big data era and (3) utilisation of big data technologies and techniques to develop more effective business operations and models for organisations. He collaborates with research teams all over the world and has over 90 journal publications with a total citation count of over 20,000 in Google Scholar, among the highest in Asia in the business discipline.

Professor Chau received his PhD in business administration from the Ivey Business School, the University of Western Ontario in 1992. In the same year, he returned to Hong Kong and joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He then moved to the University of Hong Kong in 1999 and was promoted to full professor in three years, in 2002. In September 2017, he was appointed as the Li Dak Sum Chair Professor in Information Systems at UNNC. He became Vice Provost for Research of UNNC China in 2019.

Professor Chau's achievements and contributions have been recognised by a number of local/international appointments and awards, including Padma and Hari Harilela Professorship in Strategic Information Management at The University of Hong Kong in February 2014; Qiushi Chair Professorship at Zhejiang University, China in September 2014, and the AIS Fellow - awarded to no more than six scholars in the discipline of Information Systems each year globally - in December 2013.

Professor Chau was ranked No. 8 worldwide and No. 1 in Asia in terms of research publication productivity in top/major IS/IT journals, announced in the Communications of the Association for Information Systems in April 2005.
