While many graduates of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) pursue postgraduate study at world-leading universities or launch international careers, others are choosing to make an impact closer to home. Wu Sirui, a Finance, Accounting and Management graduate, has successfully secured a civil service position in Qingdao, where she now works on fiscal policy implementation and public welfare initiatives.

Her journey demonstrates the diverse opportunities that a UNNC education can offer. Through British-style teaching, an international learning environment and extensive project-based learning, she developed critical thinking, independent learning skills and cross-cultural communication abilities—competencies that helped her excel in China’s highly competitive civil service examination and in her current role.

Having completed internships across state-owned enterprises, private companies and educational institutions, Wu was able to identify a career aligned with her aspirations for stability and social impact. She credits UNNC with giving her the confidence to make independent choices and the global perspective to tackle complex challenges.

“UNNC taught us to grow wherever we are, with broad perspectives, solid capabilities and a strong sense of purpose,” she said. “The University doesn’t simply teach you how to answer questions—it prepares you to navigate an uncertain future.”

For students considering their next step, Wu’s story reflects the many possibilities available at UNNC: whether pursuing further study abroad, entering the global job market or serving society through public administration, students are empowered to forge their own paths.
