Recently, world-leading academic publishing company Elsevier officially released the 2022 “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers” list. Based on Elsevier's citation and index database Scopus as a statistical source, the list includes the 5216 most influential Chinese scholars worldwide of various disciplines. 11 academics, from three faculties and seven disciplines, from the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) were listed in the ranking.
In the discipline of Business Administration, four UNNC academics were listed as “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers”, followed by Management Science and Engineering, with two reaching the rankings. In the discipline of Management Science and Engineering, Professor Alain Chong has been rated as one of the Most Cited Researchers in China for the eighth year running.
In addition, UNNC has five scholars recognised in Theoretical Economics, Applied Economics, Pedagogy, Materials Science, and Computer Science and Technology. Professor Anwei Feng is among only 16 scholars nominated in the field of Pedagogy nationwide, and material scientist Professor Guang Zhu, made the list for the first time.
Over the past few years, UNNC scholars have consistently demonstrated their high academic standards and commitment to world-class research. According to the 2022 version of “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking list released by Stanford University, 11 UNNC academics appeared in the career-long database and 15 members of staff in the single year database, setting a new record in the university’s history. Their research covered a variety of capabilities including Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Business and Management, Nanoscience, Applied Physics, Material Sciences, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Operations Research.
High-level talent is essential for universities to advance teaching and research and enhance science and technology innovation development. Based on the high-quality scientific and educational resources of the University of Nottingham, UNNC has been introducing top talents from around the globe, empowering cutting-edge scientific research, and solving global challenges.
Professor Hing Kai Chan, Professor of Operations Management listed as one of the “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers”, gained the patent “Digital watermarking method for 3D printing models", which solves the problem of intellectual property protection for 3D printing models. Professor Guang Zhu, Professor in Nanomaterials and Devices, led a research team to successfully design ultra-stable and stretchable electrodes that contribute to the continued development of wearable health monitoring devices.
The university’s academic excellence contributes to pioneering research and drives discipline construction. UNNC has four subjects listed in the 2022 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects – Management, Business Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering – indicating that the university’s research capability and research quality are in the first tier among domestic and international universities. Among them, Management and Business Administration have been listed in the ranking for the past three years.
With the responsibility of “introducing global wisdom to solve local problems”, UNNC will continue in the future to introduce international talent, cultivate talent, and support talented academics in pushing the boundaries of knowledge, serving local strategic development, and delivering world-leading research to solve today’s global challenges.
