The School of International Communications (IC) at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has marked its entrance into the Champions League of Film Production with its landmark partnership with ARRI (Arnold and Richter Cine Technik).
ARRI is leading the way with the revolution of filmmaking practices through Virtual Production (VP) and Motion Capture (MC) technology. It is here where UNNC and ARRI, two heavyweights in their respective industries, are coming together to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers.
With the support of ARRI, a state-of-the-art VP and MC Studio will be built at UNNC. The studio is composed of an LED wall that projects the environment in real-time. It's also equipped with ARRI's renowned ALEXA 35 camera system, which saw the highest number of films contesting for the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes 2024 Film Festival. This will enable UNNC students to be exposed to the pinnacle of world-class film production technology right here on campus at UNNC.
In addition to advanced film production technology, this collaboration will premiere top-tier film education resources to UNNC. Dr Filippo Gilardi, Head of the School of International Communications and Associate Professor in Creative Industries and Transmedia, has remarked how this landmark collaboration will provide students with masterclasses from renowned filmmakers from around the globe, as well as offering the possibility of both domestic and international internships.
As part of this iconic partnership, IC will become an ARRI Certified Film School, in which UNNC students will be certified users of ARRI audio-visual systems, such as cameras and lighting. This has already taken shape since IC staff undertook training at ARRI headquarters in Munich earlier this year. During this summer, they will also undertake training in New York to prepare for the studio's unveiling.
Tiger Kang, Head of Solutions and Rental, ARRI Greater China, stated that UNNC, as an outstanding representative of Sino-foreign universities, with its unwavering pursuit of artistic and technological innovation, as well as its excellent international teaching team, has filled ARRI with anticipation and confidence for the future collaboration.
