Message to PhD students and supervisors
10 February 2020
Dear PhD students and supervisors,
Hope everyone is well. Graduate school places the highest priority on the health and wellbeing of our PhD students especially during the current Coronavirus outbreak. Given that the university has delayed the start of the semester to 2nd of March, we would like to advise all PhD students and supervisors that:
1) All PhD supervision are encouraged to operate as normally as possible via online platforms such as Skype, WeChat or Outlook Meeting etc. Students are advised to keep records of the relevant PhD documents (e.g. Phd supervisory meeting forms, meeting notes etc.) via email or OneDrive.
2) Please do not access your labs, conduct fieldtrips or visit companies in China during this period. These activities will be postponed until further notice. We understand that your research progress could be affected by this and students will be given extension to their annual review, thesis submission etc. to compensate their time loss.
We would also like to inform colleagues and PhD supervisors that we have also decided to extend deadline for Faculty, Strategic and High Flyer scholarship to 31st of March, 2020. The deadline for the other scholarship categories will remain the same for the time being.
Please take care of yourselves during this period.
Update on 6 March 2020
Dear PhD students,
Hope everyone is coping well. UNNC campus and Ningbo city has done well and remain safe with no additional cases of coronavirus reported over the last week. Unfortunately, the international spread of the virus has progressed, but Ningbo in general is still relatively safe.
The university plans to resume face-to-face classes provided that we obtain the approval from the government. This however will involve a phased return of students, and we will update doctoral researchers once we can confirm the exact date of return to campus for doctoral researchers. In the meantime, we are also in contact with the UK to discuss about extensions of reviews and submissions for doctoral researchers and will get back to you very soon.
Graduate School has started several online classes for doctoral researchers, so please do sign up and stay in touch with your supervisors.
