Opening ceremony for Chinese Painting Class

September 14 at Teaching Building 118 UNNC, accompanied by soft Chinese classical music, all the participants were excited and passionated to see the Opening Ceremony of 'Chinese Painting Public Benefit Class by Ningbo Overseas Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Institute'. This event was jointly executed by Li Qingyu Studio, Deng Feng Lai (means waiting for the wind) Studio, Nottingham Confucius Institute China Ningbo Branch and UNNC Calligraphy and Painting Society.
Professor Martin Lockett delivered speech to thank the great support from Ningbo Overseas Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Institute. He also welcomed Mr Li and all the Chinese painting teachers to UNNC.
Mr Jianlin Shi, Deputy Director of Ningbo Chamber of Overseas Chinese Businessmen & Executive Director of Ningbo Overseas Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Institute, delivered a speech on the development of Public Benefit Chinese Painting class, compared and contrasted the differences and commons between western and easten arts. He explained the benefits that art brings to people both physically and mentally. He also wished the class a great success.
First, Mr. Li introduced the common tools and materials for Chinese Painting. Writing brush, Ink stick, Paper and Ink slab——'The four treasures of study', which we used to call. Then Mr Li showed how to paint a dragonfly. To help everyone control the painting skills, Mr Li broke down the painting step by step and coached the learners individually.
With the careful guidance of Mr. Li and enthusiastic help of the volunteers of UNNC Calligraphy and Chinese Painting Society, everybody had a good understanding of the tools of Chinese Painting, and drew some vivid dragonflies with the brushes in hands. While gaining happiness of Chinese painting, they experienced the profound traditional Chinese culture as well, what a worthwhile class!
