Understanding about China: Chinese Village Explore at Xiangshan

12 October 2019

12 Oct, 20 international students and Mandarin learners visited Xiangshan to experience the life of Chinese fish village. The participants followed village residents to pick up sweet potatoes from the muddy field and make delicious local food with it. They also had the opportunity to touch one of the intangible culture heritage—Bamboo Weaving. Mr. Zhang Xinrong, the master of bamboo weaving firstly exhibited his extraordinary art works, then guided students to use bamboo to make basket and decorate it with flowers. In Xiangshan, bamboo was a typical economic plant and widely used as the raw materials of daily life suppliers.

Though the small village remained relatively authentic Chinese flavor, it was not isolated from the globalization. Just like some participants said, to play golf and Taiji at the same village was a really unique trial. Different from purely displaying the cultural heritage, the NCI Ningbo believed a direct experience of modern China would be much helpful for the international students to have a better understanding about China.

This activity was a component of the university’s ‘Living in China’ programme. Appreciations to Department of Campus Life and all the other departments’ joint efforts.
