In the summer of 2022, initiated by the University's Careers and Employability Services office (CES), students and staff from the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) visited 53 enterprises to explore a new model of school-enterprise cooperation and talent development. This is an important initiative to deepen the integration of industry and education and expand the cooperation between schools and enterprises responding to the calling of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
On the basis of full research on the needs of teachers and students of the Faculty, FoSE and CES has made great efforts to prepare for this project. In mid-August, Professor Ruibin Bai, Head of the Department of Computer Science at the UNNC, led three academic staff and student representatives from the Department to visit Hikvision and its Mobile Robotics R&D Center in Hangzhou, China, to discuss more in-depth cooperation and exchange in the fall semester. At the end of August, Professor Ruibin Bai again led the Faculty staff and students to visit NOVEL, one of the leading hi-tech companies in Ningbo. The Director and two Deputy Directors of NOVEL Research Institute attended the meeting and led the Faculty to visit the factory and exhibition.
Dr Chi Zheng, Deputy Director in charge of Microscopy and Imaging Technology Center, is a PhD graduate of the Department of Computer Science at the UNNC, and Haoyang Mao, another Deputy Director in charge of Project Management Department, is also an alumnus of UNNC. During this visit, the two sides further exchanged ideas from the previous visit to the University on the topic of enterprise development, research cooperation, talent needs, and campus recruitment, and explored diverse ways of university-enterprise cooperation, research collaboration and talent cultivation cooperation.
Every time FoSE representatives visit a company, Faculty staff will conduct on-the-spot investigation and research, and have discussions with relevant personnel and alumni to deeply understand the general situation of enterprise construction and development, listen to the actual needs of enterprises for graduates, the professional quality of talents, the revision of the programme specification, and the docking of internship and training with employment and entrepreneurship.
Students are graduated with excellent academic qualifications, transferable skills, a creative outlook and a fresh perspective. They are in demand from employers around the globe and ready to tackle any problem in the future. The Faculty put an emphasis on hands-on practice and transferrable skills. The UNNC experience enhances students’ core competence in employment and further studies. The Faculty has also organized a series of activities like 1V1 CV consultation and interview tips workshops.
During the summer, FoSE has cooperated with the CES and professional consulting companies to deliver training programmes such as 1V1 revision guidance for resumes and interview skills to students. Since June, the Faculty has led students to visit leading companies in the industries, including Popsmart Technology, Joyson Electronics, Samsonite, Deloitte, CRRC, Ningbo G.S.I. Power & Machinery Group, Ningbo Communications Investment Holdings, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group, Hikvision and NOVEL, creating a platform for face-to-face in-depth communication between students and enterprises to further promote high-quality employment for graduates.
