UNNC becomes only the third institution outside of the UK to have received full BALEAP accreditation across its suite of English for Academic Purposes modules.
After achieving BALEAP accreditation for Semester 1 modules in 2023, CELE is proud to share that following a visit from accreditation teams in Summer 2025, Semester 2 modules English in Specific Academic Contexts A, English in Specific Academic Contexts B, Oral Communications Skills B and the CELE Summer Pre-Sessional Programme have now also been accredited.
The Pre-Sessional Programme is a full-time intensive 8-week course run in July and August each year, designed for students who aim to go on to Postgraduate study at UNNC. The course is designed for students with conditional offers for UNNC postgraduate degree programmes, who may not yet meet the required English language ability for direct entry.
English in Specific Academic Contexts A focuses on the development of language and skills for reading and writing with specific reference to Arts and Social Science contexts, whilst English in Specific Academic Contexts B does the same for Science and Engineering students. Oral Communication Skills B focuses on the development of appropriate language, strategies and skills for effective delivery of oral presentations in undergraduate academic contexts.
The British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes (BALEAP) supports the professional development of those involved in learning, teaching, scholarship and research in English for Academic Purposes, and has been accrediting courses and institutions since 1991 through the BALEAP Accreditation Scheme (BAS).
The broad aim of BAS is to establish and sustain the standards required of specialist EAP provision in whatever context it exists, in order to enhance best practice across diverse education contexts and academic communities. The scheme is designed for any provider which prepares students or staff for successful academic study, teaching or research in higher education institutions. It is open to higher education institutions, further education institutions, language schools and international study centres anywhere in the world.
This full accreditation confirms CELE’s ongoing dedication to best practice and continuous improvement of module and teaching quality across its entire suite of English for Academic Purposes provisions. Accreditation also means that UNNC becomes an institutional member of BALEAP.
