Biography

Having lived in Germany, Kenya, England, Northern Ireland, and China, I have always been interested in intercultural communication and languages. I worked as a radio journalist for several years before becoming a language teacher. After teaching German as a Foreign Language at the University of Ulster for two years, I joined UNNC as a German Language Tutor in 2008. Having always been interested in the use of technology for language teaching, I did a one-year practical traineeship in multimedia and long-distance learning with the Goethe-Institute in Munich. Rejoining UNNC's Language Centre in 2015, I then held the roles of German Team Coordinator and E-Learning Coordinator and for three years taught a module on the use of digital technologies within the School of Education’s MA TESOL. In 2019, I became a nominated member of UNNC’s Campus Teaching Committee and was Deputy Director of the Language Centre from 2019-21, playing a key role in the transition to online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. I left the Language Centre in 2021 to join the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) as an Educational Technologist.
