Biography
Athena started teaching English in 2010, beginning with General English in Shanghai and later in York, England. Before joining UNNC in September 2017, she was teaching undergraduates Academic English for two years at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou. Athena is also a trained yoga instructor and mindfulness coach. She has been facilitating lunch-time mindfulness practices to promote wellbeing for UNNC staff and students in the last few years.

Research interests
Athena's MA dissertation focused on pragmatic transfer between EFL learners’ L1 pragmatic knowledge and their L2 realisation of speech acts. She is also interested in student engagement and learner motivation in the context of EAP.
