NUBS China secures three MoE Humanities and Social Sciences Programmes

Recently, the Ministry of Education (MoE) unveiled the results of the Humanities and Social Sciences Programme for 2023. The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) received approval for a total of three funding projects - a record for the university. All approved programmes were secured by academics from Nottingham University Business School China (NUBS China). This achievement underscores the significant strides NUBS China has made in the research, highlighting the business school's strong emphasis on research, and its robust, integrated research support system.

Among the successful applicants were Dr Jin Chen, Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Dr Ying Jiang, Associate Professor in Finance. Both of their projects were selected for the Planning Scheme. Additionally, Dr Jin Han, Assistant Professor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, applied for a project that was chosen for the Youth Scheme.

Principal Project Leader: Dr Jin Chen

Project Title: How interpersonal and inter-organisational networks affect entrepreneurial high growth: An empirical study based on machine learning

Dr Jin Chen currently is an associate professor in entrepreneurship and innovation from Nottingham University Business School China. She got her Ph.D. degree from the National University of Singapore. Her research focuses on technological innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging markets, especially on the interaction between public and private in the context of entrepreneurial financing. She has published 48 academic papers in this field, including Research Policy and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (Financial Time 50 journal) among others. She has led 4 national or provincial-level research projects, and has been awarded "Shanghai Pujiang Talent", "High-level Top Talent of Zhejiang Provincial 5246 Project", and "Ningbo Pan 3315 Innovation Talent".

Principal Project Leader: Dr Ying Jiang

Project Title: Improved big-data financial uncertainty and its impact on short- and long-run volatility: Evidence from the Chinese stock market

Dr Ying Jiang has a PhD in Finance from the University of Essex, UK. Her main research interests lie in the fields of empirical asset pricing and applied time series econometrics. In particular, she is interested in stock return predictability and volatility modelling and forecasting in financial markets. She published more than 20 articles in leading journals such as the Journal of International Money and Finance, European Journal of Finance, International Journal of Forecasting and others. Ying is currently the Associate Editor of Research in International Business and Finance. She has led two projects from the Ministry of Education of China.

Principal Project Leader: Dr Jin Han

Project Title: Alternative innovation ecosystems' dynamic response and action under extreme decoupling pressures: From the non-focal firm's perspective

Dr Jin Han holds a PhD degree in Innovation Management from the University of Twente, the Netherlands. His main research interests have been in the area of ecosystems, including business/innovation ecosystems and ecosystems for entrepreneurship. In particular, he is interested in exploring how entrepreneurs and new ventures from Chinese high-tech industrial contexts can benefit from ecosystem management and governance to create new innovations. Currently, the majority of his research projects relate to the integration of digital contexts and ecosystems, like digital innovation ecosystems, digital entrepreneurial ecosystems, digital social entrepreneurship, as well as complex digital innovations. His recent ecosystem research has been published in the Journal of Business Research, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Industrial Marketing Management and others.

The MoE Humanities and Social Sciences Research Programme aims to promote the development of humanities and social sciences research in higher education and is open for application to both Chinese and international researchers who work in the relevant fields. It is fiercely competitive and is an important measure of the level of humanities and social sciences research among colleges and universities.
