Case Study

Case 1:Student and Staff Portal

DT-student and staff hub

Background: In order to facilitate staff and students, solve practical problems, improve staff and student satisfaction and adhere to the design concept of service, centralization, convenience and efficiency, UNNC developed a unified portal for all staff and students.

Functions: The portal consists of three modules: a communication module, a service module, and a management module. The Communication module is dedicated to optimizing the internal communication efficiency of UNNC, so that staff and students can quickly and easily learn about real-time news, important announcements and academic activities of the University. The service module is to establish a service-related integration platform in the system, provide information to staff and students, and standardize the management process. The management module includes management tasks such as background content creation, user roles’ settings and permission definitions. With the passage of time, the student portal has integrated a large number of service businesses of the overall university, schools and departments, and carefully classified and presented to students in the form of service cards to help students solve problems in one stop.

Achievements: As of March 2022, Staff and Student Portal has jointly published thousands of information, including news, notices, and administrative information on academic activities, with a total of more than 130,000 views. At the same time, the portal integrates 23 digital systems, including personnel management system, financial management system, visitor system, room booking system, research project life cycle management platform, student source and external business opportunity management platform, career development and learning platform, etc. In addition, the university, schools, and departments actively carry out business sorting, process optimization, and digitization work, and the portal integrates 42 business application processes, including school electronic seal application, procurement application, legal consultation application, international conference and external open course application.

Case 2:Student Application Hub

DT-student application hub

Background: UNNC applicants shall go through different application procedure according to the programme they apply for and their own situation (Gaokao, non-Gaokao, PGT, PGR, etc. To help improve UNNC applicants and related staff’s application and admission efficiency, quality and experience overall, this project aims to build a unified UNNC online application and admission hub.

Functions: With Application Hub ready, students will be able to submit application, pay tuition fee through the pop-up window integrated with Finance system, fill in personal data, pick dorm room (Accommodation System is under development) and all the way to the end of admission procedure. Alongside this journey, staff will be able to process each case.

Achievements: Since Application Hub involves a number of departments, it is developed by phases. Now it is ready for PGR, PGT, non-Gaokao and inbound mobility students, the service for the rest types of students are still under development.

Case 3:V-Room for Smart Teaching

DT-V-room

Background: V-Room uses VR technology to integrate virtuality and reality, providing virtual classroom scenes and giving students an immersive teaching experience.

Functions: VR technology started to be utilised in student classrooms successfully in recent years. VR enables students to immerse themselves in scene experiences, better understand knowledge difficulties, and build safe learning scenarios. Students are able to conduct experiments in specific scenes and communicate and interact with virtual characters.

Achievements: V-Room breaks the barriers of traditional education, connects the physical space channels of virtual and reality, allows the interaction of people and technology through experimental experiences in a non-hazardous environment.

It has been used in daily teaching and achieved extraordinary results in the fields of architecture and engineering, virtual tours are also well and supported by V-room. Currently, UNNC is also studying the teaching practice of AR technology, the experimental results will be used in the fields of architecture, engineering and medicine.

Case 4:Research Information System (RIS)

DT-RIS

Background: The scientific research project life cycle management platform is a comprehensive one-stop management platform for scientific researchers, project progress, project results and project funds based on the complete life cycle of scientific research projects within the university. Following the digital transformation of UNNC, based on the large number and variety of scientific research projects and the unclear structure of scientific research personnel, it was proposed to build a comprehensive management platform for scientific research projects.

Functions: This management platform supports overview of real-time project data, status and fund flow status based on scientific research projects across the school, and can be managed and updated by school administrators, researchers and professors.

RIS has completed the docking of financial, human resources and other systems, achieving clear personnel allocation and clear funds in and out accounts when many projects are being carried out at the same time. It has improved the management efficiency of scientific research information and optimized the scientific research and production, increased campus visibility and helped the strive for more opportunities for international cooperation.

Achievements: After the launch of RIS, Academic staff and researchers are able to view, plan and monitor the life cycle and status of the research project online, view the profiles of scientific researchers and research fields and make decisions based on live data and overall strategic planning.
