As part of the Provincial Key Laboratory of Carbonaceous Wastes Processing and Process Intensification, The GreenTech Lab focuses on developing green technology solutions, be that processes, products or services that use less resources and/or energy, generate less waste, and causes less environmental damage than alternatives.

Green technology, by definition, includes a broad range of technology related to recycling, the circular economy, green processing, renewable energy (wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, biofuels, etc), resource processing, green chemistry, and more. Fundamentally, it is concerned with reducing our impact on the environment in the short and long term.

Our current work is concerned with,

  • Developing a novel pipe design, GreenPipe, that leads to
    • lower pumping energy in hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • improved cleaning-in-place in the food & drink, chemicals, power, minerals and pharmaceutical industries.
    • Improved process efficiency with enhanced mixing of solid particles in hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Recycling lithium ion batteries, etc
  • Re-using of plastics for high value-add projects, etc
  • Dry segregation of plastics waste….”
